Rawalpindi:Under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Ms. Maryam Nawaz Sharif, a high-level meeting was convened at the City Traffic Police Headquarters in Race Course, Rawalpindi. Chaired by Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Beenish Fatima, the meeting reviewed key components of the Punjab Integrated Traffic Management System (PITMS) and discussed the implementation of the directives issued by the Chief Minister.
The meeting was attended by Senior Traffic Officers, DSPs, Circle Officers, and Sector Incharges. A comprehensive agenda was addressed, including public participation, positive citizen feedback, field staff behaviour, and ensuring smooth traffic flow across the city.
CTO Benish Fatima emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in traffic law enforcement. She highlighted the need for the effective use of body cameras and visual evidence during challaning (issuance of traffic tickets), ensuring that violations are documented with clarity and integrity.
She stressed that First Information Reports (FIRs) should be registered for serious traffic violations such as encroachment, overloading, overspeeding, faulty or missing vehicle lights, underage driving, one-way violations, and riding without helmets. A zero-tolerance policy should be adopted for all other traffic violations, with daily enforcement action being a top priority.
The meeting also reviewed progress on various components of the PITMS action plan. These included the continuation of anti-encroachment operations, ensuring the fitness of vehicles, efficient reporting and follow-up of traffic accidents, and conducting hospital visits for accident verification. Other aspects discussed were maintaining digital attendance records of traffic wardens, installing GPS trackers in official vehicles for better monitoring, and introducing improvements in the driving license issuance system to make it more transparent and efficient.
On each of these issues, the CTO issued clear directives to the relevant officers, stressing the importance of strict implementation within defined timelines. The City Traffic Police Rawalpindi remains committed to the Chief Minister’s vision of a “Safe Punjab” by not only enforcing traffic laws but also raising public awareness on road safety. At the conclusion of the meeting, all officers were instructed to submit timely reports and dedicate their full efforts to making Rawalpindi’s traffic management a model for other regions.
