‘Water supply, sewage master plan to be made functional’
Rawalpindi : On the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Director General (DG) WASA Tayyab Farid and Managing Director (MD) WASA Muhammad Saleem Ashraf have given a briefing on the solution for Rawalpindi’s sewerage system.
The Master Plan under Punjab Development Program (PDP) was presented on the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif here on Saturday.
Secretary Housing Noorul Amin Mengal presided over the meeting where concerned officials given a briefing on Rawalpindi Water Supply and Sewerage Master Plan/Charah Dam and Nullah Leh.
The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Managing Director Muhammad Saleem Ashraf during briefing said that water supply and sewerage system will be fully functional in Rawalpindi. He said that construction of Charah Dam will make it possible to supply 28 million gallons of water to the city.
The Secretary Housing said that WASA Rawalpindi will install water distribution network and surface water treatment plants. 40 per cent sewerage system exists in Rawalpindi, will be taken to 100 percent, Mengal said.
He also said that to save rainwater underground water tanks will be built for this purpose. Wastewater treatment plants will be installed at sewage drain locations in Nullah Leh, he said. Water from sewage and rainwater drains will be used for agricultural purposes, Mengal advised.
Planning should be done in collaboration with relevant institutions, smart use of resources should be ensured. On the instructions of the Chief Minister of Punjab, the planning of the Punjab Development Program is moving towards completion, Noorul Amin Mengal directed.
