KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Dr Farooq Sattar said on Sunday recent killings of Rangers and police personnel is a conspiracy being hatched to halt upcoming Local Government Elections in the city.

Speaking at a press conference, he said that he has offered all possible assistance to DG Rangers Maj Gen Bilal Akbar for the eradication of terrorism and extremism in a recently held telephonic conversation.

Commenting over the local bodies polls, Sattar said several political parties have forged an electoral alliance, joining hands even with the proscribed organisations. “On the other hand, MQM candidates are being arrested,” he added.

The MQM stalwart however said that his party’s election campaign was in full swing and it had completed the homework in this regard.

“If Almighty wills, MQM will achieve a historic victory (in the LG polls).”

Dr Farooq Sattar said he expressed deep grief and concern over the recent martyrdom of Rangers personnel during the telephonic conversation with director general of the paramilitary force.
