KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sought clarification from Shahid Afridi over the decision to drop Sarfraz Ahmed for the T20 series against Sri Lanka.

Questions have been raised over T20 skipper Afridi’s decision to drop wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed who also serves as his vice-captain on the squad.

The decision led to a clarification being sought by PCB Chairman Shahryar Khan and Chairman Executive Committee Najam Sethi.

Shahid Afridi told Geo News correspondent Abdul Majid Bhatti that he wanted to try some new players who would be part of Pakistan’s cricketing future.

Pakistan’s T20 skipper is scheduled to hold a press conference related to his charity in Karachi on Wednesday and it is expected that he will be asked about the decision to drop Sarfraz.

When Chief Selector Haroon Rasheed was asked about this decision he replied that Sarafrz was not the type of player who could sit on the bench. Rasheed added that the PCB wanted to try Sarfraz Ahmed as the T20 captain if the opportunity arose in international matches leading to the World Cup.
