PM Nawaz meets Chinese, Afghan presidents in Ufa

UFA: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held a meeting each with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Friday in Ufa on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

UFA: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held a meeting each with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Friday in Ufa on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.

During the meeting with the Chinese president, Jinping said relations with Pakistan are very high on China's agenda.

He said China wants to maintain close ties with Pakistan and is looking forward to President Mamnoon Hussain’s upcoming visit to China.

He invited PM Nawaz to attend the SCO meeting taking place in Beijing this year.

In his opening remarks Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said, “Friendship with China is a cornerstone of our foreign policy.”

He appreciated the personal commitment of the Chinese leader to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The prime minister thanked the president for the support China has extended to Pakistan in the country's effort to become a full member of the SCO.

In a meeting with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, PM Nawaz said that it is encouraging that the two countries’ relations are on an upward trajectory.

Both the leaders greeted each other with great warmth, indicative of the growing trust and confidence between them.

The PM also said that perseverance is imperative to overcome the challenges and anchoring cooperative relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan on strong foundations.
