International Pure Mathematics Conference ends

The three-day International Pure Mathematics Conference 2015 (IPMC 2015), jointly organised by the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, the Higher Education Commission and Preston University, in collaboration with Pakistan Mathematical Society, Advanced Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Algebra Forum, concluded here on Sunday.
The conference was participated by 65 speakers, 140 participants ,9 keynote speakers including 6 foreign mathematicians from South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, China, Nigeria, Iran and Ethiopia who presented their research work and attended the conference.
Prof. Dr. Qaiser Mushtaq, Conference Convener and Vice Chancellor Islamia University of Bahawalpur, addressing the concluding session said that IPMC is the only forum in the country which is providing a platform on annual basis to mathematicians from Pakistan to interact and share their research contribution with eminent mathematicians from around the world since 2000. He said a sound mathematical foundation is essential for development of science in the country and it is main responsibility of academicians to promote and flourish mathematics in Pakistan.
Every year Pakistan Mathematical Society announces two award gold medals to eminent mathematicians. This year gold medals for 2014-15 were presented to Prof. Dr. SM Yusuf and Prof. Dr. Bashir Ahmed Saleemi for their extraordinary contribution and services in the field of mathematics besides shields and certifies were distributed among speakers. Prof Dr Qaiser Mushtaq presented these gold medals to both renowned mathematicians during the ceremony.
Prof. Dr. SM Yusuf was awarded Fulbright Scholarship and completed his PhD from University of Tennessee USA in 1962. He was decorated with Tamgha-e-Imtiaz from Government of Pakistan in 1968. Prof. Dr. Bashir Ahmed Saleemi got his PhD from Liverpool University, England, and has severed in renowned universities in Pakistan and abroad. He has four books and numerous research articles in his credit.
Conference Convener Prof Dr Qaiser Mushtaq congratulated both the scholars for achieving gold medals, he also thanked speakers, participants specially foreign delegates for visiting Pakistan to attend the conference and share their experiences. He also thanked the Higher Education Commission and other collaborating institutions for supporting the conference.
