Professor Tanwir Khaliq, chairman of the department of surgery and controller of examination at Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto (SZAB) Medical University-PIMS, has been awarded Fellowship Faculty of Surgical Trainers
(FFSTEd) by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh for his contribution in the field of surgical training and teaching.
For the university, Professor Tanwir established the first examination department and MCQs bank and conducted three university examinations over a period of one year.
At PIMS, he started laparoscopic and vascular surgery units and conducted the first workshop on bariatric surgery (surgery for obesity) in collaboration with SIMS, Lahore.
He has now been entrusted with the task of reviving the suspended liver transplant programme.
