Known in their own words as Road Leopards, a family comprising husband, wife and their one-and-a-half-year-old daughter have given bike tourism a new level in Pakistan as they successfully surpassed dangerous and difficult terrains from Lahore to Khunjrab Pass.
The Road Leopards have also completed their several others long distance destinations including a bike ride from Lahore to Cholistan, Lahore to Khushab, Lahore to Murree and many more. Instead of travelling on a luxurious motorbike, the Road Leopards are using an ordinary Honda 125.
Irfan Younas, known as a trend setter on social media, is traversing Pakistan on motorcycle with his wife Semee and baby girl Kaswa. It is pertinent to mention here that Kaswa has become the first baby girl of Pakistan who travelled this far on a motorbike.
“Life is meaningless unless you have someone with whom you can enjoy it and I am lucky to have completed many lifetime trips with people that matter most to me, my wife and 1.5 year old daughter, “said Irfan while talking to The News at his photo studio in Johar Town Tuesday.
In his own community, Irfan is a famous photographer who has a passion for shooting historical places within in Pakistan. A resident of Mughalpura, Irfan got the genes of a traveler from his father who himself was a hunter and always used to take his family with him on hunting tours. “For the very first time, I did a one a tour of Golhra Sharif from Lahore with one of my college buddies,” he said, adding they travelled for almost 17 hours and even in heavy rain.
After this tour, I started making bike tours to different destinations but the lifetime tour happened in 2014 when he for the very first time took his wife and daughter to a tour of Skardu on the bike. “We left for Skardu and after reaching Chillas we went to Gilgit and then to Hunza and then to Khunjrab Pass,” he said, adding: “We really enjoyed the sight scene and took mesmerising pictures of Rakaposhi, Lady Finger and Golden Peak mountains. “After coming back from Khunjrab Pass, we went to Skardu and then from there we went to Deosai, the highest altitude plateau in the world,” he revealed.
Encouraging local couples to start tours on motorbikes, he said northern areas are very safe and tourists will really enjoy their rides. “Motorcycle touring involves special equipment and techniques and special preparations could be taken before starting the tour,” he suggested. He said riders should take a break before they get tired. Giving another very important tip, he said when you're traveling long distances, you'd better not chase others but try to ride as "even" as possible. That doesn't mean that you should be slow, but it means that keep you side and don’t divert your attention.
Pakistan is the most beautiful country in this world but most of Pakistanis didn’t know what places exists after Murree, he said, adding the tourism departments in all the provinces are sleeping under several blankets. “There is no proper setup from where tourist’s especially local travelers can get information regarding routes, features of destinations, maps, cultures and traditions.
“We can develop tourism industry with very small efforts,” he said, adding increased domestic tourism will definitely attract international tourists. “My life has been a one non-stop adventure and I could probably write a book,” he said and concluded that these days he is getting an overwhelming response from across the world on social media and a large number of foreigners and expatriates are asking queries from him.
