A division bench of Lahore High Court Monday gave time till September 10 to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for filing a reply on a bail application of Qasim Zia, allegedly involved in a stock exchange corruption scandal.
The NAB counsel sought time to complete the investigation and filing a reply. The bench accepted the request. Applicant counsel Barrister Ali Zafar stated that NAB officials intentionally implicated Qasim Zia. He submitted that the company committed fraud with people and the applicant had already left the company, m/s Ali Usman Brokerage, seven years ago. He stated that the NAB officials got his 16-day physical remand but during investigation could not find his involvement in the fraud case. He said the applicant was behind bars for more than a month and the NAB had failed to arrest the co-accused. He requested to order his release on bail. The NAB counsel in reply said NAB had arrested two co-accused persons and was interrogating them. Earlier, the NAB counsel had said that the applicant had committed fraud of billions of rupees with people and there was ample evidence against him.
