An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Monday issued lifetime arrest warrants for South Africa-based Hafiz Furqan alias Mirza Bhai who has been charged with extorting money from doctors in India and Pakistan.
The police allege that Furqan runs an extortion racket from South Africa.
One of his accomplices, Arsalan, is already in detention while another, Asghar, is believed to have fled to Dubai.
They told the court that the Mirza Bhai used telephone and emails to send extortion letters to doctors in India and Pakistan using a pseudonym ‘Bhai Ji’.
They also said that Mirza Bhai created social media accounts using the name of Michael Smith Thomas to hunt doctors, receive extortion money from victims through wire transfer companies.
It was said that the Pakistan authorities in Pakistan had also contacted Interpol to arrest Mirza Bhai, whose whereabouts in South Africa had been tracked down by the Special Investigation Unit.
