KARACHI: Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Friday demanded the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to withdraw sales tax audit notices issued to the taxpayers, a statement said on Friday.
Senior Vice President KCCI Muhammad Ibrahim Kasumbi, in a letter to Shahid Hussain Asad, Member Inland Revenue Policy FBR, said despite repeated appeals of exemption to sales tax audit, KCCI member firms are receiving audit notices.
He was of the view that the audit of registered persons was a waste of time both for the FBR and the taxpayers already paying value addition of three percent on general sales tax above the 17 percent tax paid at source under the final tax regime.
The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vice President further said in the absence of clear policy, taxpayers, who received the audit notices, have faced harassment and demands for unnecessary documents from field formations and Inland Revenue officials.
