ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Friday decided to expedite the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) against terrorists. The decision was taken during COAS General Raheel Sharif’s meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held at the PM House on Friday.During the meeting, matters relating to the implementation of National Action Plan (NAP) for combating terrorism and extremism came under discussion. General Raheel Sharif also briefed the prime minister about the roadmap for the establishment of speedy military courts in various parts of the country. It is likely that the courts would be established within this month in the light of the amendments made in the Army Act of 1952 and 21st Constitutional Amendment adopted by the two houses of parliament last month. Accordingly, cases would be referred to the courts for trial. Sources revealed that the COAS also took the PM into confidence over his recent visit to Beijing where he held meetings with the top Chinese political and military leadership. COAS General Raheel Sharif told the prime minister that the armed forces would organise the joint services parade on Pakistan Day. The army chief also briefed the PM on deliberations that took place in the corps commanders conference this week The joint military parade of Pakistan armed forces will take place on March 23 and will be organised by the Joint Staff Headquarters in Rawalpindi which oversees the country’s three armed forces. The army chief also apprised the PM of successes in the ongoing Operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan and surrounding areas. He told him that a number of militants had been eliminated in the operation. The COAS and PM also had discussed the plan to repatriate the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of tribal areas. The PM appreciated the resolve of the armed forces in the fight against terrorism and said that the government and the nation fully supported the armed forces.
