This refers to the article, ‘The US’ next frontier’ (January 27) by M Saeed Khalid. US President Barack Obama or the head of any other state may have his agenda to follow. If Obama is visiting India for the second time during his six years in the White House, is it not childish if Pakistan goes into a ‘left-alone’ mode?
Keeping in mind the size of the Indian consumer market and the fact that India has been the largest importer of military hardware in the world, one should not be surprised if any president or prime minister of a prospective ‘trading country’ visits India twice or even three times in a year. These visits are purely in pursuit of profit for this is what the corporate culture says – a trade-off for more jobs in the principal country. It is true that India is the US’ next frontier to conquer but it all depends upon how far India can go to accept the ‘strings’ attached in any deal involving the transfer of technology. If ever the US agrees to transfer technology to India it will not be without strings attached.
