KARACHI: Pakistan’s talented judoka Shah Hussain lost to World No2 Gasimov Elmar of Azerbaijan in a vital bout of the Judo Grand Prix 2015 in Jeju, South Korea, on Saturday.
However, there was much grace in the defeat as the 22-year-old Tokyo-based Shah did not concede a point. He superbly resisted the world’s top player Elmar for five minutes. However, in the end the jury decided in favour of Elmar because Shah had made some foul during the epic fight.
“It was a treat to watch,” Pakistan Judo Federation (PJF) secretary Masood Ahmed told ‘The News’ on Saturday.
“Shah played brilliantly. Playing with so much perfection against the world’s leading judoka was not an easy job. I hope Shah will deliver in the coming events,” Masood said.
The result would certainly help Shah gain points which will help him in his Olympic cause as he has been fighting for an Olympic berth. Elmar reached the semi-finals after emerging as group winner.
