Poisonous roots
The death anniversary of Salmaan Taseer yesterday (January 4) looked a bit different from previous years – the Supreme Court has finally closed Taseer’s killer Mumtaz Qadri’s chapter by declaring him a murderer. But it is still an unfinished task. What about those so-called religious ‘scholars’ who brainwashed people like Qadri? What about the sectarian outfits that are using the SC verdict to advance their agenda of hatred?
Salmaan Taseer’s son, Shahbaz, who was kidnapped the same year in August, is still in the custody of terrorists. Asia Bibi, the poor farmer, whom Salmaan Taseer met in jail in December 2010, is still being imprisoned in solitary confinement. We are just cutting the branches of trees. The poisonous roots are safe and intact – deep in the ground.
