Siraj rejects govt’s claim about budget

LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Sirajul Haq has rejected the government’s claim about the recent budget being a step forward towards making Pakistan into a Madina-like state and said it is another blatant lie and hollow slogan to deceive the masses yet another time.

“Does the government seriously believe the interest-based economy and massive taxation on poor masses is a way forward to achieve the objective of a welfare state,” he questioned while addressing on a second day of the three-day JI Majlis e Shoora meeting at Mansoora on Saturday.

Sirajul Haq lamented the ruling elite never bothered to address the common man’s problems, adding the few families had been in-charge of the country’s affairs for decades, creating every hurdle in the way of educated middle and lower middle class people to reach to the parliament. True democracy, he said, could not flourish until the political parties introduced democracy within their own ranks. He said the economy could not be put on track without introducing good governance and ending corruption culture in government sectors. He said enforcement of the principles based on the teachings of Quran and Sunnah were the way forward to solve the country’s problems.

Siraj paid tribute to the religious and nationalistic services of late JI Ameer Syed Munawar Hassan on his first death anniversary. He said the JI would continue its struggle to put the country on track and reach to the public in every nook and corner to spread the message of Quran and Sunnah. He said transforming Pakistan into an Islamic welfare state was the only objective of the JI politics.

Different resolutions were passed during the meeting which also discussed at length the economy and Kashmir and Afghanistan situations.

The three-day session of the JI’s top decision making body will conclude on Sunday (today) and Sirajul Haq will inform the media about the decisions taken by Shoora.
