PESHAWAR: United States Consul General in Peshawar Sebron “CB” Toney visited the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU) on Tuesday to celebrate America’s commitment to funding and resources to the seat of learning. Together with Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Razia Sultana, the diplomat marked the fourth anniversary of the Eleanor Roosevelt Corner at the University’s Central Library. The facility helps young women from across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to take advantage of the print, online, multimedia resources and connect with the US experts. The US-funded English Access Microscholarship program provides a foundation for the English language skills to economically disadvantaged students. Highlighting the US government support to KP universities, the consul general said, “The Eleanor Roosevelt Corner exemplifies our strong educational cooperation and the ability of students and young leaders to gain important knowledge, skills, and confidence through exposure to the United States.” Created through a partnership between the US Consulate General in Peshawar and the university, the corner in Peshawar is one of 17 American Spaces, called Lincoln Corners, located throughout Pakistan. Since 2005, these corners have hosted hundreds of programs on topics of mutual interest to the US and Pakistan. The Eleanor Roosevelt Corner Peshawar is the first to be housed in a women’s university, said a press release.
