Agriculture in Pakistan

January 13, 2020

Innovation in agricultural products and processes is crucial to controlling the massive influxes of human migration into Pakistani cities. Advancements in agriculture will create thousands of jobs for both rural and urban residents. Bettering agricultural production methods may also have the potential to boost the country’s exports by 3-4 times its present amount. In order to improve agricultural production it is essential that agricultural entrepreneurship is taught in the many research institutions across Pakistan.

This would enable individuals to develop the proper skills and training needed to better agricultural production models. Ideas and concepts learned through education on agriculture will add great value to the country’s crop yield. Pakistan should consider looking to our Asian counterparts such as China and Korea for inspiration in agriculture. Rapid economic development in these countries was furthered by small-scale farming done at the village level. Additionally, a major portion of Pakistan’s fruits and vegetables are exported to the cheaper global markets because our first-level value standards are not high enough. If we raise the processing standards of fruits and other agricultural commodities, our products could potentially attract the high-end global markets of Japan, Europe, and the US.
