Neom Bay Airport levels up security with new technology
Saudi Arabia is building Neom megacity worth $1.5 trillion
Neom, a futuristic megacity under construction in Saudi Arabia, recently showed new technology that will allow travellers to go through its airport e-Gates without relying on manual human interaction.
Allowing for a smooth and contactless experience for international visitors, the technology features biometric scanners and high-resolution cameras that capture each traveller’s biometrics.
Lieutenant General Sulaiman bin Abdulaziz Al Yahya, Director General of Passports, visited Neom. Al Yahya and his delegation toured Neom Bay Airport, the project’s command-and-control centre, and other key Neom facilities during his visit.
His visit’s one of the most prominent highlight was the expanded Neom Bay Airport, where Al Yahya was detailed on the latest technologies and initiatives. The demonstration also included the future contactless eGates for passport control.
In cooperation with Jawazat, the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), and the National Information Center, among other government agencies, this automated border control system, which is currently on trial, is being constructed.
While improving the overall traveller experience, the ongoing partnership between Neom and Jawazat aims to strengthen knowledge exchange between the two organisations.
The directorate was invited to Neom to see the progress made to date, as Jawazat provides a range of services across Saudi Arabia for passengers arriving at and departing from the airport.
