NOWSHERA: Prof Dr Qamarul Wahab, the vice-chancellor of the University of Technology, has resigned from his office due to financial crisis at the institution, official sources said on Sunday.
The sources said that the public sector universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were facing severe financial crunch. They said that the University of Technology at Amangarh in Nowshera could not pay salaries to its employees. It was also facing shortage of staff. This prompted Vice-Chancellor Dr Qamarul Wahab to resign. It was learnt that he had sent his resignation to the concerned government department. The sources said that the federal and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments and the Higher Education Commission did not pay due attention to the problems faced by the University of Technology, Nowshera and it forced a number of staff members to quit their jobs one by one due to non-payment of their salaries. “Now the situation has reached a stage that there are no funds with the university to pay even the utility bills, not to mention other needs,” an official pleading anonymity told The News. When contacted, Nizamuddin, Principal Secretary to Governor, confirmed the resignation tendered by the vice-chancellor. It may be added that the previous government of PTI in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had established the University of Technology in a rented building in Nowshera.
