MANSEHRA: The police on Saturday arrested two main accused and their facilitator in the murder case of a sup-inspector on Hazara Motorway a day earlier.

A traffic warden had sustained injuries in the incident that occurred when the occupants of a car allegedly resorted to open fire over their vehicle’s challan.

“We have arrested two brothers who martyred a police sub-inspector and seriously injured a warden on Hazara Motorway. They had managed to flee with the help of their facilitator, who was also held by police,” Shafiullah Gandapur, the district police officer, told reporters here.

Flanked by the senior police officers, he said that the arrest of the accused, Muhammad Khalid, and his brother Muhammad Naveed, residents of Landikotal, currently settled in the Karkala area, was a challenge for the police.

“The accused after fleeing the crime scene reached Karkala and called their friend Muhammad Qaisar to bring his vehicle and take them away. However, our team intercepted them somewhere at KKH and arrested them,” Gandapur said.

The DPO said that the accused fired and killed sub-inspector Amir Khan and injured warden Muhammad Naveed on Hazara Motorway’s Badra interchange after they handed them over a fine ticket of Rs1500 on traffic rules violations.

“The accused first attacked, and then opened indiscriminate fire on traffic wardens led by the sub-inspector. And we have also seized weapons and two vehicles used in the incident,” Gandapur said.

The DPO said that Inspector General of Police Akhtar Hayat Gandapur had announced prizes and admiration certificates for the police team, which made possible the arrest of the accused.

“Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has announced the Shuhada package for the family of the martyred sub-inspector and praised police for the prompt arrest of the accused,” he added.

The martyred sub-inspector, who left behind four children, was laid to rest in the graveyard in Oghi. A large number of people including police officials attended the funeral.
