Seminar on child epilepsy
Rawalpindi :Dr Rai Mohammad Asghar, in-charge of Pediatrics Department, Rawalpindi Medical University, has said that about five lakh children are suffering from epilepsy in Pakistan, says a press release.
Epilepsy, a disorder of the nervous system that causes a person to become unconscious suddenly, often with violent movements of the body, is a curable disease. There are many types of epilepsy that can either be felt in one part of the body or the whole body tremors.
In newborn babies there is a sign of eye fixing for a short period of time or even constant upward looking is also kinds of child epilepsy, he stated this while addressing a seminar on baby epilepsy.
Professor Dr Rai Asghar said that the common type of epilepsy causes shocks in the baby’s entire body and eyes are up. The foam starts to come out of the mouth and the baby becomes unconscious. Falling can also lead to injury. Urine or stools may also go out during the attack. The duration of attack is usually one or two minutes. But continuous attack of more than five minutes can be dangerous. After the attack, the baby is in a state of drowsiness for about half an hour and then comes to an end. Uncontrolled shocks damage the brain, which can lead to the baby’s mental capacity. He said that there are many causes of epilepsy: babies who do not cry immediately after birth and do not get oxygen to the brain are more likely to develop epilepsy. If the brain is damaged for some reason, such as an attack of stroke or paralysis.
Professor Dr Rai Asghar said that there are different medicines for different types of epilepsy, but the important thing is that the prescribed drug for epilepsy should be taken two to three years consecutively.
