The FIA’s Anti-Human Trafficking Circle claimed arresting four suspects on Monday who were on the Most Wanted Human Traffickers Red Book list.
FIA Sindh Director Shahid Hayat Khan confirmed to The News that his office had started an inquiry after receiving reports of corruption and other illegal activities in Nadra offices, and found allegations to be true.
He said cases had been registered against eight Nadra officials and investigations were underway against them for allegedly registering aliens, including Bengalis, Burmese, Afghans and Indians, against handsome amounts.
Khan said orders had been issued to the relevant circles of the FIA to carry out raids for the arrest of those who were on the Red Book list.
Ashfaq Alam, deputy director of the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle, said four of the wanted suspects, Mohammad Khurram Alvi, Hassan Zubairi, Naveed Noor Husain and Ehsanul Hassan, had been taken into custody.
The circle also arrested three human traffickers and agents who extorted money from innocent people on the pretext of sending them foreign countries, including US and Europe countries.
The suspects, identified as Mohammad Kamran, Mohammed Zahid and Mohammad Ameen, had allegedly provided their clients with fake degrees and certificates against handsome amounts.
Fake degrees and certificates of technical schools and about 40 files containing visa processing forms were also seized.
The FIA also raided Nadra’s National Registration Centre in Keamari and arrested the centre’s deputy assistant director, who is the incharge of the centre. Inspector Salman Waheed is investigating.
