This refers to the article ‘Horse trading’ (Feb 18) by Farrukh Saleem. That millions are spent for a candidate to get elected to the Senate is a shocking fact. Those who aspire to become senators know that they will earn at least ten times what they spend to get elected.
The question is: why should we have a senate? Why don’t we increase the number of National Assembly and provincial assembly seats? If that can’t be done, senators should be directly elected by the people as they are in the US.
