Five members of Lyari’s Uzair Baloch gang were killed in an early morning raid by law enforcers on Sunday.
A Sindh Rangers team raided a hideout identified by an intelligence source in the Malir River area and, in the ensuing encounter, five suspects identified as Akber Maliri, Khalid Lashari, Sheraz Ibrahim alias Comrade of Malir, Gul Hassan alias Peero and Yousaf Pathan were critically injured.
They were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for treatment, but all five were pronounced dead upon arrival. Sub-machine guns and ammunition were also seized during the raid.
Initial media reports had incorrectly cited Sheraz Ibrahim as Sheraz Comrade, one of the Lyari gang war’s key figures and a close confidante of Uzair Jan Baloch, prompting officials to clarify that the killed suspect was a low-level gang member.
They, however, did hail Akber Maliri’s elimination as a significant feat as he had been increasingly active in the Malir area and was the one directing the gangs operations including target killings, kidnappings and extortion.
A spokesman shared details of the charges against each of the five killed suspects. According to the information, Maliri was wanted for more than 30 murders while Gul Hassan alias Peero and Yousaf Pathan were each involved in 11 different murders. The latter was also wanted for involvement in a Rs6.4 million robbery in Model Colony.
Similarly, Sheraz was said to have killed six people and Khalid Lashari was accused of murdering four men.
