Slavery is still present in several forms today. There are tens of millions of people trapped in various forms of slavery – forced marriages, forced labour, debt bondage, human trafficking, etc – throughout the world. Unfortunately, Pakistan ranks number 3 in modern slavery. Forced labour in the industry sector is the worst type of slavery prevailing in the country. Labourers work from dawn to dusk and earn a nominal amount. Nothing constructive has been done by the government to protect the labourers of the country. Even the labourers are unaware of the laws drafted for their protection.
The economic conditions of the country have bounded every labour to work against a low income. The environment of the country facilitates businesses, making the rich richer. On the other hand, labourers are forced to live a miserable life. Although a number of bills were passed in parliament for labour protection, their implementation wasn’t carried out effectively. The government is requested to take out immediate steps to free the country from the plague of modern slavery.
