Jhagra wants scientific advancements introduced in agriculture sector
PESHAWAR: Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said on Monday that agriculture was the backbone of the economic sector of Pakistan and it could play a pivotal role in boosting the economy.
Presiding over the Senate meeting of the University of Agriculture Peshawar at Governor’s House, Peshawar, the governor said that it was the responsibility of the Agriculture University and other relevant departments to introduce scientific advancements in agriculture sector.
During the meeting agenda for further streamlining and working of the organisation was also discussed. Among others the meeting was also attended by the Member Provincial Assembly Shaukat Yousafzai, Vice-Chancellor Agriculture University Dr Zahoor Swati, secretary Higher Education, secretary Agriculture, principal secretary to governor, representatives of Higher Education Commission and members of the senate of the university.
The committee also approved budget for the year 2016-17 with the instruction that the budget should be presented for approval to the Senate within the stipulated time. Decision was taken in the senate meeting to formulate a three-member committee for the further improvement of budget making. Speaking on the occasion the governor said, “Knowledge and research are the main steps towards peace and development of any nation.”
He reiterated that Agriculture University could play a vital role in the development of agriculture sector of the province as well as the country.Stressing on further improvement, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra appreciated the University of Agriculture for conducting broad-based research. The governor urged the university administration to ensure utilization of funds with transparency and in accordance with financial action plan.The vice-chancellor of the university briefed the meeting on administrative, research, curriculum activities and procedure about new appointment in the university.
