Police all set to counter possible terror activities during Muharram

The federal capital police are all set to counter possible terror activities during the Muharram-ul-Haram in and around Islamabad.

Security of the federal capital has been strengthened and heavy forces will be deployed at Imamargahs and Masajid to avoid any untoward incidents. In this perspective, comprehensive crackdowns have been initiated with the help of Rangers in different areas of Islamabad and in which hundreds of suspects including Afghan national arrested with heavy cache of arms and ammunitions during a couple of days search operations, police said.

Islamabad Police along with Pak Rangers conducted search operation in Bhara Kahu and its adjacent areas and arrested 14 suspects, a police spokesman said. Following the directions of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Tariq Masood Yasin, SSP (Operations) Islamabad Sajid Kiani has prepared a special plan of search and combing in the city. According to this plan, search operation has been initiated and the police are conducting checking at slum areas, inns, hotels and restaurants and Afghan habitats. These measures are being taken to ensure foolproof security during Muharram Ul Haram and keep vigilant eye on the suspected elements.

According to details, on Friday, Islamabad Police along with contingents of Pak rangers conducted search operation in areas of Dhoke Jilani, Saban Syedan, Mohallah Qaziabad, Nai Abadi, Satra Meel, Faraz Colony and Wahidi Colony of Bhara Kahu Police Station in which they searched houses, workshops, markets, under construction buildings and residential areas. Police including lady commandos, women police also participated in operation. The teams succeeded to arrest 14 suspects. During this grand search operation a heavy amount of weapons was also recovered. This recovery includes 13 twelve-bore guns, four 7mm rifles, (10) 30-bore pistols, 02 9mm pistols and 763 bullets of all types of weapons.

SSP (Operations) Islamabad Sajid Kiani while talking to media in PS Bhara Kahu has said that on the special orders of Interior Minister Ch. Nisar Ali Khan a comprehensive plan of searching and combing has been devised to secure the city during Muharram Ul Haram. He said Islamabad Police would continue search operations in coming days and complete combing would be made of sensitive areas. Kiani further said that cases will be registered having illegal weapons and the licensed weapons will be verified. He has also appealed to the citizens to remain vigilant and inform police in case of any suspicious activity around them.
