Cop killed in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: A policeman was killed during an encounter in Khazana late Tuesday night.Heavy contingents of police reached Khazana after reports that a proclaimed offender is hiding in the area. An encounter took place between police and the proclaimed offender during which gunman of the station house officer, Akbar, was critically wounded and later succumbed to his injuries. The funeral prayer for the slain cop was offered on Wednesday that was attended by senior officers of the capital city police.

 

Polio vaccinators protest firing by cop

TAKHT BHAI: The polio vaccinators staged a protest against the unprovoked firing by police guard in Shergarh on Wednesday, locals said. They said that the anti-polio team was busy in vaccination drive when a policeman identified as Manzor Hussain who was on their security duty opened unprovoked firing.  The cop used abusive language against the female vaccinators when they inquired about the reason for firing, the locals said, adding, the vaccinators stopped the drive after the incident.The police and district administration officials reached the spot after the incident and closed the delinquent cop to the Police Lines. The vaccinators restarted the drive after assurance from the authorities that action would be taken against the cop.

 

Three women killed in Nowshera roof collapse incident

NOWSHERA: Three women were killed and a girl child sustained injuries as the roof of a house collapsed in Dag Besud area here on Wednesday, police sources said.They said that the dilapidated roof of the house of Ibrahim Shah collapsed in Mohallah Miangan, burying the inhabitants under the rubble.They said that the wife, a daughter and a sister of Ibrahim were killed while his other minor daughter sustained injuries in the incident. They said that the locals retrieved the bodies and rescued the injured girl. The injured girl was shifted to a hospital where her condition was stated to be out of danger.

 

Cop guarding imambargah shot dead in Kohat

KOHAT: Unidentified assailant gunned down a policeman who was on duty outside an imambargah here on Wednesday, police sources said. The sources said that Constable Ali Raza was performing security duty at the Rizvia Hussainia Imambargah in Kohat city when a gunman opened fire on him. “He received bullet injuries to his head and died on the spot,” an official said.His body was shifted to the Liaquat Hospital for autopsy. The cop was laid to rest in his village Ustarzai sited in Kohat district. The motive for the killing isn’t known yet but it could be target killing. The police have intensified security in Kohat ahead of Muharram.

 

Man killed in Bannu scrap shop blast

BANNU: A scrap dealers was killed and his helper sustained injuries in a blast in a shop in the limits of City Police Station here Wednesday, police officials said.They said that the blast occurred in a scrap shop on Jaman road. As a result, the sources said, that the scrap dealer Fahadullah was killed on the spot while his helper Ibrarul Haq sustained injuries.  They said the injured was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital from where the doctors referred him to a hospital in Peshawar due to his precarious condition.They said the explosive materials were hidden in the scrap. They said the adjacent houses were also damaged in the blast.

 

Fata anti-polio campaign in full swing

PESHAWAR: Anti-polio vaccine has been supplied to Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) where the campaign against the crippling disease is in full swing. The September round of anti-polio campaign, still in third day of its implementation, is one of the National Immunisation Days (NID) launched throughout the country, said a communiqe. Demand for the anti-polio vaccine during NIDs, in comparison to Sub-National Immunisation Days (SNID) wherein campaign is launched in specific parts of the country, is much bigger. Deputy Coordinator for the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) Dr Ikhtiar Ali said,

 

“Initially anti-polio vaccine was provided

across Fata by September 23.”

He added, “Later on, keeping in view vaccine demand from the agencies, some of the vaccine vials were transported to South, North Waziristan and Orakzai agencies on September 26, whereas, vaccine vials to the remaining areas have been sent today. Vaccine is being provided across Fata where needed.”

 

Model Town incident Petitions returned

LAHORE: A full-bench of the Lahore High Court Wednesday sent back to the registrar office the petitions seeking directions to the Punjab government to make inquiry report on Model Town public incident.The bench led by acting Chief Justice Shahid Hameed Dar took up the matter and observed that these petitions were wrongfully fixed by the registrar office before this bench. This bench was not constituted to hear the petitions, he remarked. So, the cases were adjourned again for indefinite period without hearing.

 

SC seeks details of credentials of chairman, SPSC members

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday sought details of qualification and other credentials of Chairman and members of the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC).A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, comprising Justice Amir Hani Muslim and Justice Ijazul Ahsan heard the suo motu notice case regarding appointment of Chairman and members of SPSC. During the course of proceedings Farooq H. Naek counsel for SPSC apprised the court that the apex court had no direct jurisdiction to hear this case. He also requested the court to grant time for further checking about the issue of jurisdiction as a case of same nature was also pending before the SHC.The court accepted the request and adjourned the hearing till October 12.
