Doctor refuses to hand over body to relatives

NAWABSHAH: Doctors and staff at the People’s Medical University Hospital not only refused to hand over body of a person to his relatives but even had them arrested. Relatives of the deceased, who was identified as Liaquat, alleged he died at the hospital due to sheer negligence of the duty doctor. Later instead of consoling the relatives of the deceased, the duty doctor allegedly refused to hand over the body to his relatives and had them arrested. Surprisingly, the police instead of resolving the issue took custody of the body and arrested the relatives. Citizens and social circles have appealed to the chief minister of Sindh to take notice of the behavior of the doctor and staff of the hospital.
Boy receives injuries in Nawabshah

NAWABSHAH: A boy received head injuries when a big chunk of plaster from the ceiling fell on a group of students while the class was in session. Teachers at the Government Naya Madrassa High School said that the pieces of plaster suddenly fell on the students, injuring one Zohaib Ahmed who was immediately taken to the People’s University Hospital due to a head injury. The incident panicked the students who rushed out of the classroom in fear. Teachers said that reminders for repair of the room and the building had been sent to the department concerned many a times, but the department showed lethargy which led to the incident.
Shops looted in Nawabshah

NAWABSHAH: Two wholesale medicine shops on the Sakrand Road were robbed of cash and mobile phones by three masked bandits carrying weapons. After having looted cash from the first shop, they entered the other shop and demanded cash. However, there was not much cash in the other shop so the bandits took the cell phones of the staff there and fled, police said. The shopkeepers of the area later staged a protest demonstration.

Senate, NA separately meet today
ISLAMABAD: The Senate and National Assembly will meet separately at Parliament House in Islamabad today (Monday).The two Houses will discuss important national issues besides carrying out legislative business.The Senate will start its 253rd session today (Monday) afternoon while National Assembly begins its 36th session at 5:00 pm.
Five POs among 20 held in Charsadda

CHARSADDA: The police arrested 20 suspected persons including five proclaimed offenders (POs) during search operations in the district on Sunday, official sources said.They said the police launched search operations at various areas in the limits of the Khanmahi Police Station and arrested 20 suspects including five POs. Weapons and narcotics were also seized. The police shifted the held persons to police stations.
Petroleum products to become cheaper by Rs3 per litre
ISLAMABAD: Passing on full benefit to consumers of reduced oil prices in the international market, the government decided on Sunday a reduction in prices of petroleum products by Rs3 per liter.According to the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra), petroleum products’ prices will be reduced by Rs3 and high speed diesel price by Rs2.50 per litre. Also, kerosene and furnace oil’s prices will also be cut.According to a notification, the decision was taken in the cabinet’s meeting.It is worth mentioning here the government will announce its decision on September 30.
PTI councillor seeks release of detained brother

PESHAWAR: A councillor on Saturday asked the chief minister and the inspector general of police (IGP) to help release his detained brother. Speaking at a news conference here, Malik Tahir Hussain said that his brother, Ashiq Hussain, who was a retired employee of the Health Department, was picked up by the police on September 7 and was later shown as terrorist.
Flanked by his father and local elders, Malik Tahir demanded an inquiry as to how a person, who was arrested 20 days before, was implicated in a false case. He asked the government to provide him justice or else he would commit self-immolation. Malik Tahir said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and other party leaders lauded the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police for its performance, but they implicated innocent people. He said being an office-bearer of the PTI he demanded justice from its government.
Elders demand construction of college in Barang

KHAR: Tribal elders of Barang tehsil in Bajaur Agency have urged the government to make no further delay in starting construction work on the Barang Degree College. Speaking at a jirga at Memula area in Barang on Saturday, tribal elders including Gul Dad Khan, Mehrab Gul, Sar Zareen Khan, Asad Khan, Hazrat Khan and Bakht Sher said that the government should acquire the land for the college as further delay would not be tolerated. They said the authorities had approved the college some two years ago but construction work on the building was yet to be started. The tribal elders also demanded the government to declare tehsil a calamity hit area and announce compensation package for the farmers as flash floods had damaged standing crops and orchards. They said that a former political agent had also announced establishment of Governor Model School in Memula area of the tehsil but work on the project was yet to be launched. The tribal elders also asked the authorities concerned to pay heed to the lack of medical staff and non-availability of medicine at the Barang Hospital.
Man killed in Bannu clash

BANNU: One person was killed and two others sustained injuries when two armed groups traded fire in the limits of Ghoriwala Police Station on Friday, official sources said. The sources said that rival groups opened fire at each other soon the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) union election in Hujram Khel area of the district. As a result, three persons including the newly elected divisional Chairman of Pesco union Farman Ali Shah, his brother Farhan Ali Shah, and one Asim from the other side sustained injuries. The injured were taken to District Headquarters Hospital in Bannu where Asim succumbed to his injuries. The sources said that Farman Ali Shah had defeated Malik Ghulam Ali in the union election.
PML-N women stage protest

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) women wing, on Saturday staged a demonstration against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) proposed march on Raiwind. Led by District Council member Salima Ikram and others, the protesters gathered outside the Peshawar Press Club and chanted slogans against the PTI and in support of their party leaders. The speakers said the country was passing through a critical situation and the PTI leaders were taking out useless marches. They asked PTI leaders and workers to support Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in his efforts to highlight the Kashmir cause at the international level.
DERA MURAD JAMALI: A terrorist was killed in a shootout with Frontier Corps personnel Sunday in Dera Murad Jamali.The personnel were guarding the railway track when they spotted a suspicious man planting a bomb on the track.When they came towards the man, he opened fire and tried to escape. They chased him and killed him.
