Traffic police deployed at animal markets

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Tayyab Hafeez Cheema has said that two SPs, four DSPs, 14 inspectors, 30 patrolling officers and 107 additional traffic wardens have been deployed around 17 animal markets, set up by the city district government, in the city to maintain smooth traffic flow on roads.
During his visit to various animal markets to review traffic arrangements on Monday, he said the City Traffic Police (CTP) had also deployed seven fork-lifters and three break-downs at animal markets in Shahpur Kaanjaran, Saggian Pull, Audit & Account Society, Alhafeez Garden, Green Town, DHA phase 9, Wapda Town and others.
He said that stern action would be taken against wrong parking and other violations of traffic rules and laws. The CTO said that people visit the animal markets and park their vehicles along the wrong side which caused traffic mess on roads. He urged people to park their vehicles only at designated parking areas by the district government to avoid any traffic chaos.
Accidents: At least 691 road accidents were reported in Provincial Monitoring Cell of Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) in all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours; in which 06 lives were lost and 609 serious injured were shifted to different hospitals of relevant districts.
However, some 203 victims, who sustained minor injuries, were discharged on the spot after provision of first aid by Emergency Medical Teams.
According to the data, 318 drivers, 28 underage drivers, 134 pedestrians and 366 passengers were among the victims of the crashes.
The statistics show 141 accidents were reported in Lahore Control Room, which affected 151 persons placing the Provincial Capital at top of the list followed by 76 in Faisalabad with 89 victims and Gujranwala remained at third position with 45 accidents and 43 victims.
The details further show that total 818 in victims were affected by road traffic crashes including 651 males & 167 females, while age group of the victims show that 132 were under 18 year of age, 501 were between 18 and 40 years and rest of the 185 victims were reported above 40 years of age. According to the data, 540 motorbikes, 110 auto rickshaws, 64 motorcars, 43 vans, 08 passenger buses, 22 trucks and 75 other types of auto vehicles and slow moving carts were involved in aforesaid road traffic accidents.
