M-Tag mandatory for all vehicles entering Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: All vehicles entering the federal capital will now be required to have an M-tag, as per a major decision taken at a high-level meeting held at the CDA headquarters on Wednesday.
The meeting was chaired by Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa. The meeting focused on implementation of a comprehensive digital parking system in Islamabad, including the mandatory use of M-tags, introduction of parking meters and cashless transactions for parking payments.
It was decided that digital parking facilities will be rolled out across Islamabad, with parking charges to be higher in congested and high-demand areas. Citizens will be able to reserve parking spaces through a mobile app or online platform, and payments will be made via QR code or digital wallet — eliminating the need for cash.
Chairman CDA Randhawa directed relevant departments to conduct detailed surveys of traffic flow and the volume of vehicles entering and exiting the city daily.
He stressed the need to make the digital parking system efficient and citizen-friendly, particularly in commercial zones and popular public areas.
The new system is expected to improve traffic management and reduce congestion in the federal capital.
