Nurse commits suicide at Bannu hospital

BANNU: A trainee nurse allegedly committed suicide at Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital here on Tuesday.According to her brother, Muhammad Adnan, a resident of Shah Mansoor, Lakki Marwat, his sister was serving at Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital and residing in the hospital hostel. He told police that he received information that his sister had committed suicide by consuming gas tablets. She was reportedly on morning duty in the ICU when she ingested the poison.

Adnan further claimed that it was later discovered his sister had been receiving harassment messages via WhatsApp from a hospital employee. Allegedly unable to cope with the continued harassment, she took her own life.

The police have registered a preliminary report and launched an investigation into the matter. Township Police Station SHO Ismatullah confirmed that statements were being recorded and inquiries were underway.

MTI Bannu administration confirmed that the incident took place on Saturday. The nurse, while on duty in the ICU, suddenly fell ill and was immediately shifted to the emergency unit. Medical staff attempted to save her, but she could not survive. The post-mortem report confirmed that she consumed toxic wheat tablets, leading to her death.

In response, MTI Bannu has formed an inquiry committee to investigate the circumstances that led to her suicide. The hospital administration stated that the committee’s findings, along with the ongoing police investigation, will be shared publicly once concluded.
