Woman acquitted in drug trafficking case
Rawalpindi: A division bench of the Rawalpindi High Court, comprising Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan and Justice Muhammad Amjad Rafique, has ordered the acquittal of a woman previously convicted in a drug trafficking case, declaring her sentence null and void.
Sadiqabad Police Station had registered a case against the accused, Fawzia Ali, on November 24 last year under the Narcotics Control Act of 1997, alleging the recovery of 1,200 grams of heroin from her possession. Following the trial, the Additional District and Sessions Judge Rawalpindi sentenced her to 10 years in prison. However, the conviction was challenged in the High Court by Advocate Waheed Naz Janjua on behalf of the accused. During the hearing held yesterday, the High Court bench accepted the arguments presented by the defense, set aside the verdict of the trial court, and ordered the acquittal of the petitioner
