ICA gets independent status
Islamabad: The Islamabad Chess Association has formally emerged as an independent body, distinct from the Punjab Chess Association.
The announcement was made during the association's general body meeting in which the new cabinet was elected unopposed. What sets the ICA apart is its dual recognition from the Chess Federation of Pakistan and the World Chess Federation, establishing it as a nationally and internationally credible platform.
The ICA has already organised a FIDE-rated chess tournament in Islamabad, setting a new benchmark in the country's chess landscape. Newly-elected ICA office-bearers including President Shujaat Ali, Senior Vice President Zehra Nadine Murtaza, Vice President Alam Sher Khan, General Secretary Muhammad Shaiman Saleem, Joint Secretary Syed Saad Muhammad Shah, Finance Secretary Muhammad Qasim and Press Secretary Rabia Rehman.
“We are proud to stand as a FIDE and Chess Federation of Pakistan-recognised entity. This marks a powerful shift, enabling us to create more international opportunities for Pakistan’s chess players,” said Shujaat Ali. He said the ICA aimed to continue organising globally recognised tournaments and pave the way for young talent to shine on the world stage.
