Defend the IWT
The world community seems sceptical of India’s accusations against Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalgam attack and its efforts to build support for its position have fallen flat. In fact, some countries, such as China, have stood up to support Pakistan. In this scenario, India’s abeyance of the Indus Waters Treaty, something it has been hinting at for years now, appears to be the only move it has made that has any traction.
The importance of water is only rising due to global warming. Pakistan must do its best to formulate a very competent legal team to take up the issue of the IWT at the highest international humanitarian and legal fora. India should not be allowed to change or modify the format of the treaty to Pakistan’s detriment.
