TMA demolishes over 50 illegal shops

PESHAWAR: The district administration of Peshawar carried out a large-scale operation against encroachments in the provincial capital and demolished over 50 illegal shops and other structures constructed on the road leading to the Supply Depot.

According to the Media Cell of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, the mega crackdown was conducted on recently on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Peshawar, Sarmad Salim Akram. Additional Deputy Commissioner Rao Hashim Azim supervised the operation.

Assistant Commissioner (City) Daud Salimi, Additional Assistant Commissioner Tanzilur Rehman, officials and personnel from the Capital Metropolitan Government, Police, and Traffic Police and Civil Defence participated in the operation as well.

During the operation, dozens of illegal shops and other encroachments were removed by using heavy machinery. The operation lasted several hours, during which strict security measures were implemented to prevent any untoward incidents.

A total of 17 kanals of government land, valued at over Rs 2 billion, was retrieved during the operation, said the officials.Deputy Commissioner Sarmad Salim Akram stated that the Peshawar district administration is committed to protecting citizens’ rights and restoring public pathways.

He emphasized that encroachments not only obstructed traffic flow but also disrupted public services.The official affirmed that the ongoing anti-encroachment campaign would continue indiscriminately, and no one would be considered above the law.

He stated that all departments were working under a coordinated strategy to make Peshawar a clean, organized, and citizen-friendly city.Sarmad Salim Akram appealed to the public to refrain from encroachments and to cooperate with the administration in making the city beautiful and safe.

The citizens appreciated the district administration’s action, with many of them calling it a significant step toward the city’s improvement. They called for widening the road as it was an important link between the GT Road to Dilzak Road.
