PFA discards 140kg unhygienic meat
SARGODHA: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) foiled an attempt to supply unhygienic meat and confiscated a vehicle near Bahal Check Post, carrying 140kg of unhealthy and foul-smelling meat in Bhakkar.
According to a PFA spokesperson on Thursday, the seized meat had no certification from any authorised slaughterhouse and was being transported from Layyah to Bhakkar. The authority immediately disposed of the meat at a designated dumping site and registered a case against the accused at the police station. 43 vehicles impounded for overcharging: The district administration imposed hefty fines on transporters involved in overcharging and overloading during the Eidul Fitr holidays.
According to Secretary Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Malik Muhammad Tahir, a thorough inspection of 1,265 vehicles was carried out during Eid days. He said that 70 vehicles were fined for overcharging and overloading, with 43 passenger vehicles being impounded in addition, a total fine of Rs. 153,500 was imposed. The RTA secretary said the authority also succeeded in recovering Rs. 24,160 in excess fare from transporters, which was returned to passengers. Special monitoring squads were formed to oversee the situation during the holidays, with full support from the traffic police and assistant commissioners, he added.
Rescue 1122 responded to 636 emergencies during Eid holidays: Rescue-1122 Sargodha responded to 637 emergency incidents during the Eid holidays, rescuing 671 individuals. District Emergency Officer Mazhar Shah stated that 246 people were injured in various accidents, with 98 receiving initial medical aid, while 146 were shifted to different hospitals for further treatment. Unfortunately, two individuals lost their lives due to accidents during the Eidul Fitr days, he added.
Shopkeepers fined for overpricing: Various shopkeepers were fined for profiteering during the ongoing crackdown launched against profiteers in the city here on Thursday. According to official sources, on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Capt (Retd) Muhammad Waseem, Price Control Magistrate and Naib Tehsildar Sargodha Ali Rana conducted raids in various markets of New Satellite Town and found shopkeepers selling essential food items at prices higher than the official rates. He imposed a total of Rs. 50,000 fine on them. The price control magistrate said that ensuring the availability of essential food items at controlled rates was the top priority of the Punjab government. He said that surprise inspections were conducted at different locations, and strict legal action was taken against the law violators without any discrimination.
WMC CEO praises cleanliness drive during Eid days: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Waste Management Company, Abdul Razzaq Dogar praised the outstanding cleanliness operation executed during Eidul Fitr, ensuring a clean and pleasant environment across the district.
He highlighted that special clean-up operations were carried out at cemeteries, parks, public recreational spots, and marketplaces. Large-scale waste removal was conducted using heavy machinery, transporting garbage to landfill sites for proper disposal. “To swiftly address cleanliness-related complaints, special squads remained actively engaged in public service throughout the festive days,” he added. He maintained that as per the directives of Commissioner Aamir Karim Khan, a special cleanliness monitoring campaign was conducted across all four districts, significantly enhancing the citizens’ Eid celebrations. He claimed that over 4,000 tons of waste were successfully disposed of across the division on the first day of Eid. The CEO further added that the tireless day-and-night efforts of the workers throughout the three days of Eid played a vital role in elevating the festive atmosphere, making the celebrations even more joyous and colourful. The citizens and business community expressed immense satisfaction with the operation, acknowledging the dedication of the sanitation workers.
