South Zone police chief DIG Asad Raza has written to Sindh police chief IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon to request the authorities to coordinate with the Balochistan government for arresting Shahzain Marri in the Boat Basin assault case.

Marri and his guards had assaulted real estate agent Barkat Ali on February 19. Five guards were arrested but the prime suspect escaped to Balochistan after the incident, as he hails from Kohlu in the neighbouring province.

Almost a fortnight has passed since the incident but police have failed to arrest Marri for assaulting Ali, who is also the Pakistan Peoples Party’s Youth Organisation Karachi Division deputy secretary, and his friend.

Ali had approached the Boat Basin police on February 21 for filing a complaint. Police registered the FIR but are yet to take any action. The case came under the spotlight on February 27, when a video of the incident went viral on social media.
