Inquiry body gives senior anti-terror officer clean chit in digital robbery, kidnap case
A three-member inquiry committee has given a clean chit to a senior officer of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), Raja Umar Khattab, in a digital robbery and short-term kidnapping case, according to an official letter issued by Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon.
The inquiry report, which led to the decision, has resulted in Raja Umar Khattab being reinstated to his previous position. “In the light of findings of the enquiry committee, Raja Umar Khattab, DSP presently waiting posting in Central Police Office Sindh, Karachi, is hereby transferred and his services are placed at the disposal of Additional IG CTD Sindh with immediate effect and until further orders,” according to an order issued by the IGP.
The case dates back to December 25 when a man named Arsalan was abducted from Manghopir. The suspects allegedly transferred $340,000 (over Rs90 million) from Arsalan’s mobile account to their own.
Following the incident, police arrested nine suspects, including the main accused, Ali Raza, and removed Raja Umar Khattab and other officers from their positions. With the latest findings clearing his name, Khattab has been reinstated, reaffirming his standing within the CTD.
