PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has launched a tree plantation campaign in Peshawar, focusing on major roads, highways, and public spaces to enhance urban greenery and environmental sustainability.

The trees will be planted along the Motorway, GT Road, Ring Road, Northern Bypass, University Road, Charsadda Road, Kohat Road, Warsak Road, City Circular Road, Palosi Road, Dilzak Road, and Bara Road.

The Peshawar Toll Plaza and its adjoining areas along the Motorway will also see large-scale plantation efforts.Peshawar Division Riaz Khan Mahsud chaired a meeting to review the campaign’s implementation.

Officials from the district administration, Peshawar Development Authority, Forest Department, Agriculture Department, Local Government Department, and other relevant agencies attended the session. The meeting decided to ensure that every five kilometers along key roads would feature uniform rows of tall trees, contributing to both the city’s beauty and ecological balance.

Riaz Mahsud instructed that all available vacant spaces along roads should be utilized for plantation to maximize green coverage. “This initiative is not just about planting trees but ensuring their long-term survival to create a healthier urban environment,” he said.

All relevant departments were directed to submit a comprehensive action plan within 24 hours. The government has formed special teams comprising officials from the relevant departments to conduct site surveys, identify planting locations, and oversee the campaign. The initiative aligns with the province’s broader environmental conservation efforts, aiming to exceed set targets during the ongoing spring season.
