CDA to activate dogs’ population control centre
Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to reactivate the Dogs Population Control Centre in the wake of increasing number of stray dogs across the capital.
Taking notice of movement of stray dogs in the federal capital, the CDA chairman and chief commissioner Islamabad has directed all the assistant commissioners and the Directorate of Municipal Administration to launch joint operations to shift stray dogs to the Dogs Population Control Centre.
The CDA chairman also directed to increase capacity of dogs centre which currently can keep 500 dogs at a time. Then CDA Chairman Captain (r) Muhammad Usman Younas inaugurated the ‘Stray Dogs Population Control Centre’ located on Park Road in the Tarlai area of Islamabad in September, 2022.
He also took special interest in executing and running the project and quick actions were taken to shift stray dogs to dogs’ population control centres on complains of citizens from residential areas of Islamabad.
However, with his departure, none of CDA management took interest checking growth of stray dogs and their free movement. The dogs’ population control centre was established on directives of the Islamabad High Court on a writ petition.
Through the petition, it was demanded that the practice of shooting and poisoning healthy stray dogs by the CDA and MCI’s sanitation directorate was inhumane and in violation of the Constitution, laws and Islamic principles and should be stopped.
