LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Friday directed the authorities concerned to purchase machinery in order to prevent urban flooding.
She was chairing a special meeting here to review measures for prevention of urban flooding, river flooding and river erosion in the province, says a press release.
Maryam directed the cleaning of floodways under the motorways, highways and railway tracks and lowering the level of green belts to ensure drainage of rainwater accumulated on the roads.
She agreed to a proposal to build storage tanks in cities affected by urban flooding.
The chief minister further directed that the rehabilitation and improvement of sewage system be prioritised in order to minimise suffering to the people.
