Asif Bajwa named new Punjab hockey president
LAHORE: Punjab Hockey Association President Parvez Bhandara and General Secretary Colonel Asif Naz Khokhar resigned during a special meeting of Punjab representatives held in Islamabad on the rest day of the ongoing Junior National Hockey Championship.
The members unanimously appointed former Olympian Asif Bajwa as the new President of Punjab Hockey Association, and Mian Zahid Iqbal from Sargodha District as the new General Secretary. Olympian Danish Kaleem will be the treasurer.
Hockey fraternity expects Mian Zahid Iqbal to adopt a merit-based policy. Talking to The News, Asif Bajwa said that everything is moving in the right direction. “We are in Islamabad for the National Junior Hockey Championship and after its conclusion we will be returning to Lahore to hold the office and do whatever in our domain for the progress of the game from grassroots to the national level,” he added.
He further stated that he has good chemistry with Zahid and Danish and the top officials of the Pakistan Hockey Federation and together with the PHF and other Olympians they will do their best to lift the game to the highest level and increase the bench strength.
