This letter refers to the editorial ‘Unending crisis reel’ (August 2, 2024). The editorial reflects on the current political situation, our economic woes and the havoc caused by the recent monsoon rains in Punjab and Lahore in particular. The rains have exposed the myth of good governance as successive provincial governments have clearly failed to develop proper drainage systems. The present state of affairs cannot bring political and economic stability.
The people’s grievances against ever-increasing taxes and protests by a political party need careful handling. But it looks like the provincial and federal governments are taking matters lightly which might cause more damage in the coming days. It is time that the government enters into meaningful talks to steer the country out of these crises.
