IT, textile designing varsities’ campuses to be set up in Karachi: Siddiqui
Federal Minister for Information Technology Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui announced on Saturday campuses of textile, fashion designing and IT universities would be established in Karachi.
Speaking to a science event at Comprehensive High School in Azizabad, Siddiqui, who is also the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s chairman, said Karachi has built Islamabad, and now it’s Islamabad’s responsibility to build Karachi.
He criticised the Sindh government, saying that in the past 15 years, the Pakistan Peoples Party-led provincial government had received Rs22,000 billion, but the money was nowhere to be seen. He highlighted that Karachi’s problem was not the lack of water but the lack of concern. He accused the rulers of elevating corruption to the status of an industry.
Siddiqui pointed out that all of Pakistan resides in Karachi, and if the city is educated, the entire country will be educated.
He remarked that although the capital was moved from Karachi, its status as the industrial, economic, and financial capital could not be taken away.
He stressed that it is the teachers’ responsibility to teach students to question and that an assessment is necessary to determine the level at which technology should be integrated. He added that once a better society is built, social sciences can also be taught.
The MQM-P chairman claimed that they wanted to establish a campus for the NED University, but the Sindh chief minister said it would be a burden on the economy. He mentioned that the government with which the MQM didn’t have issues had completed their terms, and whether the government completed its term or not did not affect Pakistan’s survival.
He commented that democracy exists where the MQM-P is present, saying that the party has sent capable people from the middle class to the assemblies by giving them tickets. He concluded that no state institution should make decisions based on domicile.
