Sattar calls cattle market a hallmark of Karachi

The security arrangements at the cattle market on the Northern Bypass are satisfactory, and the law enforcement agencies are working on further improvements, said senior Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leader Dr Farooq Sattar during a media briefing on his visit to the market.

Dr Sattar expressed his satisfaction with the arrangements and security measures. Muzaffar Hasan Khan, the cattle market’s administrator, welcomed him and informed him about the facilities provided to traders and buyers.

Speaking to the media, Dr Sattar remarked that the cattle market is a hallmark of Karachi. He congratulated the farmers and organisers who work hard throughout the year to prepare this market.

He mentioned that as an elected representative and resident, he visited the cattle market to review the security measures made by the officers of the law enforcement agencies and the administration. He found the security situation at the market to be quite good.

He noted that the cattle market is set up in a spacious area, bordered by Gadap on one side and Hub on the other. Although it is somewhat distant from central Karachi, it is safe, and no incidents of robbery have been reported in or around the market.

He stated that security details have been reviewed with the law enforcement agencies and the administration, and that the security arrangements at the market are effective. He highlighted that most of the cattle at the market are reared on quality feed, and that 400,000 animals are expected to be sold at this market, which is the world’s largest cattle market that has been held for 22 years, with the last two years at the Northern Bypass.

He also visited various stalls at the Northern Bypass cattle market, and expressed satisfaction with the health and quality of the high-breed cattle brought to the market. More than 30,000 sacrificial animals from different parts of the country have arrived at the cattle market. A large number of animals, including cows, bulls and goats, from Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are still arriving for Eidul Azha.

Over 100 camels from Shaheed Benazirabad have arrived at the market, with different breeds, including Lari, Sindhi, Thri, Sakra, Pahari and Desi, available.
