MANSEHRA: The female teachers appointed on contract basis in government high and higher secondary schools in morning and evening shifts have not been paid salaries for the last year.

“The female teachers appointed on contract at the local high school for girls and the rest of district have been without their salaries since their appointments in July last year,” Iftikhar Javed, a dweller of the Jarad area of Kaghan valley, told reporters on Sunday.

A group of locals led by Iftikhar Javed said that they recently met with local MPA Munir Hussain Lughmani and sought his support in releasing salaries of the female teachers, particularly in Government High School for Girls in Jarad.

“The education department had appointed teachers at government high and higher secondary schools for girls to fill vacant posts but no salaries were being paid to them,” he said.

Javed said that dozens of schools destroyed in the 2005 devastating earthquake were still running in makeshift shatters of tents and facing a teacher shortage.Another local, Mohammad Haroon said that Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur should take notice of the situation and ensure an early release of the salary for the contract teachers.
