PTI rejects Raoof attack FIR, demands judicial probe

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Capital Police have lodged a first information report (FIR) on the complaint of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Spokesperson Raoof Hasan under three sections of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), including 324/109 and 34, claiming that thorough investigation has been initiated to ascertain the facts.

The officials engaged in the investigation of the case, when contacted to ask why the registration of FIR was delayed, said that such sensitive cases could not be registered without receiving medico-legal report (MLR) because the Medico Legal Officer (MLO) suggests sections of offences according to the wounds. They said the police could not add any section on the directions of the victim or accused party.

Raoof Hasan, in his complaint, said that the attackers, including some transgender persons, assaulted him according to a set plan. He said that the transgender people targeted to cut aorta (throat) to kill him but cut his face about five inches high from his throat with a sharp weapon. He said the attackers seemed to be transgenders but some of them were male.

The police said that different teams have been constituted to hunt the attackers down. On the other hand, gurus of the transgender persons clarified that the transgenders of the twin-cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad were not involved in the attack on Raoof Hasan. They said that transgender persons would stage a protest against those trying to defame them by leveling false allegations.

Meanwhile, the PTI leadership rejected the FIR lodged against the attackers of Hasan and demanded the formation of a judicial commission to probe the incident. Addressing a press conference along with Raoof Hasan, senior party leaders Azam Swati, Shaukat Basra, Khalid Khursheed, Leader of opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan said that at around 5 pm Tuesday, Raoof Hassan was attacked with intent to murder. “There was going to be a big accident from which Allah saved us,” he remarked. “Raoof Hasan had clearly told everything, but we reject the FIR of Islamabad Police. Under whose pressure was it written? There is no such thing as terrorism in this FIR.” He demanded that a judicial commission formed on this matter.

Omar Ayub contended that Raoof Hasan should get justice and emhasized, “I am giving the message of Imran Khan that if any of our leaders is attacked, then we should start a peaceful protest.” Raoof Hasan said in the last two years, the atrocities committed on the PTI have not happened in the history of South Asia. “Three or four days ago I went to an office, there were four people behind me. They came and caught me and punched me. At that time, I did not take notice of it even though they were abusing and threatening me. What happened on Tuesday is also on CCTV,” he explained.
