Modern research in medical field stressed
LAHORE:Minister Primary and Secondary Healthcare Kh Imran Nazir has said that the University of Health Sciences has a key role in improving the quality of medical and nursing education.
"Merit should not be compromised. Unemployment of doctors is increasing. To earn foreign exchange, health professionals have to be exported and for this medical education has to be made according to international standards. UHS takes the lead in this regard, " he added.
The health minister was addressing the faculty during a visit to Kala Shah Kaku, Jinnah Campus of the University of Health Sciences on Wednesday. On this occasion UHS Vice Chancellor Professor Ahsan Waheed Rathore, Pro VC Professor Nadia Naseem, CEO PHFMC Dr Asim Altaf, Member Syndicate Dr Zahid Parvez, Registrar Professor Sara Ghafoor, Treasurer Baqi Bin Hanif, CEO Health Sheikhupura Dr Parvaiz Iqbal along with the management and consultants of DHQ Sheikhupura and THQ Muridke were present.
The minister took strict notice of the inaction of the government committee formed a year ago regarding the training of UHS students in these hospitals. He directed his staff to submit a report in this regard so that those responsible can be identified. He appointed CEO Health Sheikhupura a as the focal person to organise the training of students of allied health sciences programs of UHS. The provincial health minister emphasised that modern research and modern studies should be used for the upgradation of the faculty.
Khawaja Imran Nazir said that all the doctors and staff of DHQ Sheikhupura, THQ Hospital Muridke will be given modern training in various disciplines. Hospitals of DHQ Sheikhupura, THQ Muridke will be centres of excellence. He said that all the students of UHS will be able to use the clinical, surgical, dental and theatrical facilities in these two hospitals. The medical, surgical wards, theatre, dental units and infrastructure of both UHS hospitals will be upgraded. Khawaja Imran Nazir said that nurses are the backbone of the health sector, nurses are doing PhD to increase their educational capacity according to global requirements, which is a welcome sign.
